Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University


The Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University  is the higher educational university in Batumi, capital of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. Georgia. It is named after the medieval Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli.The establishment and development of the educational system in Adjara was a long-time endeavor of the Georgian community. In 1893 the issue was raised to open a Boys’ Gymnasium in Batumi. On 26–27 June 1893 the Municipality of the city granted 2 623, 95 sq/m area of land for the Boys’ Gymnasium at the seaside. The project was designed by a military engineer Sedelnikov. The first floor of the building allocated a gym while the second floor contained the church, assembly hall, eight classrooms, art classroom, physics study-room, laboratory and a library. The Boys’ Gymnasium started functioning in July, 1897. On 26 September 1900 it became possible to open a Women's Gymnasium as well. Later, by 1923, a Pedagogical Institute was founded in the building of former Women's Gymnasium (present Public School No.2) which afterwards turned into a Pedagogical College. It used to prepare the first stage school teachers.

European University is a higher educational institution bearing status of an authorized teaching university which carries out educational programs of higher academic education in accordance with the legislation and issues a document certifying the qualification recognized by the state.Hundreds of Georgian and foreign students study at the European University at this stage and 17 accredited educational programs are implemented by over 300 academic and more than 100 administrative personnel. Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU)  is a leading medical university in Tbilisi, Georgia.More than 85 years have passed since Tbilisi State Medical Institute was founded on the basis of the faculty of Medicine at Tbilisi State University (TSU). In 1992 Tbilisi State Medical Institute was renamed in Medical University.TSMU is the eight ranked (out of 55) higher-education institution in Georgia.There are almost 7500 undergraduate and 3000 postgraduate students at the University about 25% of whom come from foreign countries.[ Tbilisi State Medical University has undergone Institutional Evaluation Programme, performed by Association of European.The University was solemnly opened on 8th of February, 1918 (old style 26th of January), the day of remembrance of the Georgian King David the Builder.
